Royal Caribbean has announced extended cancellations of cruise stops to its private destination of Labadee, Haiti, citing the country’s worsening security conditions and continued Level 4 travel advisory from the U.S. State Department.

The decision impacts 23 upcoming itineraries across five ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, including the Adventure, Radiance, Freedom, Icon, and Oasis of the Seas.

Why Is Royal Caribbean Dropping Labadee?

Haiti remains under a State of Emergency due to increasing gang violence, kidnappings, civil unrest, and armed crime. These developments have led the U.S. government to maintain a “Do Not Travel” warning for the country—its highest travel advisory level.

According to the State Department:

“Crimes involving firearms are common in Haiti. They include robbery, carjackings, sexual assault, and kidnappings for ransom.”

Royal Caribbean originally suspended visits to Labadee in spring 2024, and has now extended that through at least October 2025, with a potential return in November—though no official confirmation has been given.

Cruisers who planned their trip around a stop in Labadee have been notified via email about the changes. In some cases, replacement ports have been added to the itinerary, such as:

  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Grand Turk

Other cruises will simply include an additional sea day. No compensation beyond itinerary adjustments has been reported at this time.

A Blow to Cruise Enthusiasts

For many travelers, Labadee was a highly anticipated port—known for its beachside activities, zip lines, cultural markets, and private cabanas exclusive to Royal Caribbean guests. While the cruise line has made efforts to reroute ships to alternative locations, some passengers have voiced disappointment over the missing stop.

This is not the first disruption in the cruise industry this week. Celebrity Cruises’ Eclipse also faced delays in Amsterdam after climate protesters blocked docking, showcasing growing tensions around cruise operations worldwide.

When Will Royal Caribbean Return to Labadee?

The earliest projected return to Labadee is November 2025, but this depends on the security conditions in Haiti and the State Department’s future assessments. For now, Royal Caribbean is prioritizing the safety of its passengers and crew above all.
