13 Last-Minute Valentine’s Reservations in NYC That Are Actually Good
Look, I get it. You swore this year would be different. You were not going to be the person frantically refreshing Resy at 11:00 PM on February 12th. But here we are. The “romantic” spots are booked solid until March. You are staring down the barrel of a takeout pizza on the couch again.
But do not panic. As someone who lives and eats in this city, and has procrastinated more times than I care to admit, I can tell you that some of the best nights out in NYC happen without a reservation made three months ago. In fact, scouring the threads for “Last minute Valentine’s reservations in NYC Reddit” can sometimes lead you down a rabbit hole of bad advice.
The truth is that some of the city’s best energy is found at the bar. It is in the “tavern” sections or at places that refuse to play the reservation game entirely. I have pulled together a list of spots where you can actually get a seat. You will have incredible food. You will look like you planned it all along.
The Procrastinator’s Guide to Valentine’s Day Dining in NYC
1. The Tavern at Gramercy Tavern

Flatiron | $$$
Forget the main dining room. The real New Yorker move has always been the Tavern side. It is first-come, first-served. The energy here is unmatched. The smell of the wood-burning grill hits you the second you walk in.
My advice is to go at 5:00 PM sharp or roll the dice late at 9:00 PM. Sit at the long wooden bar if you can. You must order the Tavern Burger with its cheddar and smoked onion aioli. Since it is Valentine’s, start with the beef tartare. It is elegant and casual all at once.
- Address: 42 E 20th St, New York, NY 10003
2. Manhatta

Financial District / $$$$
If you want the “wow” factor without the impossible reservation, head to the bar at Manhatta. While the dining room requires planning, the bar and lounge area is walk-in friendly. It offers the same jaw-dropping 60th-floor views of the harbor and Brooklyn Bridge. The lighting at Manhatta is perfect for dates. It is dim and golden and framed by the sparkling skyline. Ask for a seat by the window in the lounge.
You should order the “Manhatta” cocktail and the fried chicken. It sounds low-brow for a view this high, but trust me. It is one of the best bites in the city.
- Address: 28 Liberty St, 60th Floor, New York, NY 10005
3. Minetta Tavern

Greenwich Village / $$$$
There is nothing sexier than a red leather booth at Minetta. Those are hard to snag. However, the bar is fair game. I have spent countless nights squeezed in here. The energy is electric. It is loud and bustling. It feels quintessentially New York. Hover near the bar. The bartenders are pros and will help you snag a stool as soon as one opens.
Order the Black Label Burger. Yes, it is expensive for a burger. The caramelized onions and custom dry-aged blend are worth every penny. Split it with your date and order a bottle of red. Finish with the coconut cake.
- Address: 113 MacDougal St, New York, NY 10012
4. Roman’s

Fort Greene, Brooklyn / $$$$
If you are looking for Valentine’s day restaurants Brooklyn locals actually love, Roman’s is the answer. They explicitly state that “walk-ins are always welcome.” This is music to a procrastinator’s ears. The menu changes daily. The Italian wine list is deep. The space feels intimate without trying too hard. Put your name down and grab a drink nearby if there is a wait.
Order whatever the pasta special is that day. Their sourcing is impeccable. It feels like you are eating in a friend’s very chic dining room.
- Address: 243 Dekalb Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205
5. Torrisi Bar Room
Nolita / $$$$
Okay, getting a table in the dining room at Torrisi is like winning the lottery. But the Bar Room? That is for the tenacious. It is first-come, first-served. If you time it right, you can slip in. The standing rail is also an option if you do not mind getting cozy.
Arrive before they open or go very late. You have to order the Tortellini Pomodoro. It is rich and glossy and impossibly smooth. It is one of the best restaurants for Valentine’s day NYC has to offer right now. This is true even if you are eating at the counter.
- Address: 275 Mulberry St, New York, NY 10012
6. L’Artusi

West Village / $$$
Another West Village heavyweight saves plenty of space for walk-ins. The massive marble bar and the communal chef’s counter are entirely for walk-ins. I love sitting at the chef’s counter. You get to watch the kitchen team work. It provides built-in entertainment if the conversation lulls.
Get there at 4:30 PM to line up for the 5:00 PM open. It is a commitment. But it guarantees you a seat. Order the Roasted Mushrooms with fried egg and chili. And obviously, get the pasta.
- Address: 228 W 10th St, New York, NY 10014
7. Laser Wolf

Williamsburg / $$$
The view from the roof at The Hoxton is unbeatable. Laser Wolf is notoriously hard to book. However, the bar seats and the ledge are often available for walk-ins. You get the same insane views of the Manhattan skyline and the same incredible Israeli skewers.
Go for a sunset drink and see if you can snag a spot for food. You must order the Salatim. It is a tray of endless dips and pita that just keeps coming. It is interactive and delicious. On top of that, is honestly fun to eat together.
- Address: 97 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11249
8. Keens Steakhouse

Midtown / $$$
If you want history and fewer tourists than typical midtown spots, walk into the Pub Room at Keens. It is distinct from the main dining room. It features its own menu and a roaring fireplace that smells of old wood and history. Plus, it’s one of the best affordable Valentine’s day restaurants NYC has if you stick to the pub menu. You get the atmosphere without the $200 porterhouse price tag. Snag a table near the fire.
Order the Mutton Chop. It is legendary. If that is too heavy, the Prime Rib Hash is comfort food elevated to an art form.
- Address: 72 W 36th St, New York, NY 10018
9. Ci Siamo

Hudson Yards / $$$
Hudson Yards usually lacks soul. Ci Siamo is the exception. The bar area is enormous. They serve the full menu there. It is warm and modern. The fire-roasted food is incredible. This is a great backup plan if you strike out elsewhere because the capacity is huge. You need to order the Onion Tart. I dream about this tart. It is caramelized and sweet and savory and soft.
- Address: 375 W 31st St, New York, NY 10001
10. Bemelmans Bar
Upper East Side / $$$$
Is it cheap? No. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Bemelmans is the ultimate “Old New York” romantic gesture. The murals and the waiters in white jackets and the jazz trio make it magic. It does not take reservations. You just show up.
But be prepared to wait. Or go on the early side. Order a martini. It comes with a sidecar. That is the extra in a small carafe on ice. It is basically two drinks in one. The potato chips they give you for free are also weirdly addictive.
- Address: 35 E 76th St, New York, NY 10021
11. Madame George

Midtown / $$$
If you want a cocktail bar that feels like a hidden escape, this subterranean speakeasy is it. It is dark and moody, not to mention it feels miles away from the chaos of midtown. It is perfect if you just want to drink your dinner or have incredible cocktails and small bites.
Madame George is also a great spot to end the night if you had dinner somewhere less intimate. The “New York” themed cocktails are actually clever. They are not cheesy.
- Address: 45 W 45th St, New York, NY 10036
12. Candlelight Concerts ($$)
Various Locations / $$
If you messed up the dinner reservation entirely, pivot to an experience. Valentine’s day events NYC are often cheesy. But the Candlelight Concerts are genuinely lovely. You sit in a historic church or venue surrounded by thousands of LED candles. A string quartet plays Taylor Swift or Vivaldi. Book a late show and grab a slice of Joe’s Pizza afterwards. It is a high-low mix at its finest.
- Address: Various locations (Check listings for Church of the Heavenly Rest or others)
13. Spin or NYC Footy Singles

Flatiron / Various / / $$
If you are single and looking for Valentine’s day singles events NYC, do not do the sad speed dating. Go to something active. Spin often hosts “Love Pong” mixers that are actually fun and low-pressure. Alternatively, groups like NYC Footy often host singles pick-up games or bar mixers. The energy is “I am here to hang out” rather than “I need a ring by midnight.” Bring a wingman or wingwoman. It makes the ping-pong much less awkward.
- Address: 48 E 23rd St, New York, NY 10010 (Spin Flatiron)
