HBO's Upcoming Potter Series Casts Harry, Ron, and Hermione

HBO has officially named the actors for its upcoming Harry Potter television series. Dominic McLaughlin will play the young wizard Harry Potter, while Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley. The network selected these three from a global search that drew tens of thousands of aspiring actors.

The series will follow a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book saga. Each season will cover one book, bringing more detail and character development to the screen. HBO plans to begin filming in mid-2025, with the show scheduled to premiere in 2026.

Here is the cast lineup confirmed so far:

  • Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter
  • Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione Granger
  • Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasle
  • John Lithgow will portray Albus Dumbledor
  • Janet McTeer will play Professor Minerva McGonagall
  • Paapa Essiedu will appear as Professor Severus Snap
  • Nick Frost will play Rubeus Hagrid
  • Luke Thallon will portray Quirinus Quirrell
  • Paul Whitehouse will play Argus Filch

Executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod expressed their excitement in a joint statement: “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling will serve as an executive producer, lending creative guidance to the series. HBO Max will stream the show worldwide, including new markets like the U.K., Germany, and Italy.
