Everything You Need to Know Before Watching Wednesday Season 2

· ·

Netflix’s Wednesday finally returns this August with its highly anticipated second season. The gothic coming-of-age series first debuted in 2022 and quickly became a global hit, thanks to its sharp writing, supernatural mysteries, and Jenna Ortega’s deadpan performance as Wednesday Addams. Before kicking off Season 2, here is a quick and easy recap of what went down at Nevermore Academy.

Where Did Season 1 Leave Off

Season 1 followed Wednesday as she arrived at Nevermore Academy, a school for “outcasts” like werewolves, vampires, sirens, and gorgons. She did not fit into any group but possessed a rare psychic ability that allowed her to see disturbing visions. Though she tried to keep to herself, she slowly formed bonds with her bubbly roommate Enid, quirky beekeeper Eugene, and mysterious classmate Xavier.

But Wednesday was not just navigating high school life. A string of gruesome murders rocked the school grounds and the nearby town of Jericho. Her investigation led to a disturbing discovery: her love interest, Tyler, was actually a Hyde—a monstrous creature responsible for the killings—controlled by their botany teacher, Marilyn Thornhill. She was later revealed to be Laurel Gates, a descendant of the town’s sinister founder.

Major Plot Twists You Should Know

Laurel Gates used Tyler to collect body parts needed to resurrect her ancestor, Joseph Crackstone. Wednesday’s psychic link to her ancestor Goody Addams helped her defeat Crackstone once he returned. Principal Weems was killed, and Nevermore closed for the rest of the school year. In the final moments, Wednesday received a threatening message from an unknown sender.

What’s Coming in Season 2?

The first four episodes of Season 2 drop this week, with the rest arriving in early September. With Nevermore in turmoil, loose ends from Season 1 are sure to resurface. And with Tyler and Laurel still alive, danger is far from over.
