SpaceX Loses Starship Prototype in Explosion

SpaceX lost its Starship prototype during a ground test in Texas on Wednesday, June 18. The rocket, known as Ship 36, suffered an explosion while engineers were preparing for an upcoming test flight.

The event happened around 11 p.m. at Starbase, SpaceX’s launch site near Boca Chica, Texas. Teams had begun a static fire test, where they ignite engines with the rocket held in place. However, before the engines fully ignited, the vehicle blew up. A fireball followed, and residents nearby reported hearing a loud blast.

Right after the incident, SpaceX confirmed that no one was injured. The company secured the area and launched an investigation into the failure.
