What is the New York City Ferry System?
New York City had a large and popular ferry system up until the 1960’s when most of the network was dissolved. Starting in 2011, the city started to run the ferries again and since that reopening date there are six routes currently in operation. There is also a seasonal shuttle ferry which brings passengers to Governors Island. New York City Ferry connects the five boroughs of New York City providing daily service.

The Ferry’s Fare and Scheduling
A standard fare costs $4.50 USD and gives a two hour transfer window upon activation. Riders can use this transfer to board the other ferry routes. NY Waterways also operates a system of free shuttle buses which connects passengers to the ferry terminals and other stops in New York City and New Jersey.

If applicable, passengers can also apply for the Ferry Discount Program which brings the fare down to $1.45 and there is also a high-school student fare at the same rate. Members of the New York City Fair Fares program also ride for $1.45. Children under 44 inches tall ride for free.
Tickets can be purchased either at the ferry landings or with the New York City Ferry App. The app also includes live service information such as scheduling, delays and includes a route planner to effectively prepare your trip.
New York City Ferry Landings
The landings are where ferries will make their stops. There are 25 landings across the five boroughs with a total network length of 70+ nautical miles. Landings provide access to the local areas and events, as well as hosting local transit connections to keep you moving across the city that never sleeps. Events also take place nearby some of these landings and New York City Ferry will promote these events on their blog.
