Anna Wintour Steps Down as U.S. Vogue Editor After 37 Years

Anna Wintour ended her long tenure as editor-in-chief of Vogue U.S., stepping down after 37 years in the position. She announced the decision during a staff meeting on June 25.
However, she will not be leaving Condé Nast entirely. Wintour will continue to lead as Global Chief Content Officer and Global Editorial Director at Vogue, allowing her to shape the magazine’s direction worldwide and continue overseeing events like the Met Gala.
This move is part of Condé Nast’s ongoing editorial changes. The company has replaced traditional editor-in-chief roles with the new position of Head of Editorial Content. Now, it is actively searching for someone to fill that role at Vogue U.S.
Throughout her career, Wintour consistently pushed boundaries in fashion publishing. She brought celebrities to covers, elevated rising designers, and helped Vogue expand its digital reach. Her first cover in 1988, which featured jeans paired with high fashion, marked a bold shift in the magazine’s style.
