2025 Speedway Classic LIVE on FOX: Highlights and Updates
The highly anticipated Speedway Classic between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds has captured the attention of baseball fans and racing enthusiasts alike. Held at the iconic Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee, this historic game marks the first-ever regular-season Major League Baseball contest played in the state. However, despite months of preparation, a rain delay has caused a slight disruption to the festivities. This ultimately pushed back the event’s start time.

Rain Delays Start of the Game
Originally, Spencer Strider was slated to start for the Braves. But due to the lengthy rain delay, the Braves have decided to call off Strider’s appearance on the mound. No replacement pitcher has been named for the Braves yet. The Reds, on the other hand, have yet to announce whether Chase Burns will still take the mound as originally planned.
A Historic MLB Event at Bristol Motor Speedway
This year’s Speedway Classic is a unique blend of MLB and NASCAR traditions. It takes place inside the famous Bristol Motor Speedway, home to some of the most exciting races in NASCAR history. With over 85,000 fans in attendance, this game is a true spectacle, combining the thrilling world of motorsports with America’s favorite pastime.

Themed Costumes and Racing Influence
Players from both teams embraced the racing theme of the day, with Reds players going all-in on the NASCAR look. Andrew Abbott, an All-Star pitcher for the Reds, wore an authentic firesuit once belonging to NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace, which he found on eBay. “I grew up around NASCAR and wanted to wear something special for the occasion,” Abbott said.
Tyler Stephenson, Reds catcher, paid homage to Will Ferrell’s iconic character from “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” by wearing a chest protector designed in the colors of Ricky Bobby’s race car from the film. Jose Trevino, another Reds catcher, went with a fun racing nod by wearing custom-made spikes inspired by Lightning McQueen from “Cars”.
Pregame Entertainment and Ceremonial First Pitch
Before the delayed first pitch, the pregame pageantry included performances by country star Tim McGraw, pop artist Pitbull, and country singer Jake Owen. A special U.S. Navy tribute featured MU1 Kathryn Dobyns performing the national anthem, with the Navy Ceremonial Guard providing the colors. A thrilling flyover by F/A-18 Super Hornet jets from the Naval Air Station Oceana added to the spectacle.
The ceremonial first pitch was set to be thrown by Chipper Jones, former Braves third baseman, to Johnny Bench, a Hall of Fame catcher for the Reds, celebrating both teams’ rich histories.
Speedway Classic Excitement
Despite the rain delay, both managers — Brian Snitker of the Braves and Terry Francona of the Reds — expressed excitement about the historic environment. The event has already become a major talking point, bringing fans from both the baseball and NASCAR worlds together.
